CABINET DECISIONS – 29 APRIL 2015
1. Cabinet has taken note that the Prime Minister has transmitted a message of condolences to the Government and people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, which has been severely struck by the recent devastating earthquake.
Day by day, the death toll is aggravating, leaving behind a distressed population and we cannot be unmoved by the humanitarian plights being faced by the people.
A Prime Minister’s Solidarity Fund for Nepal has been set up to which Government will make an initial contribution of 500,000 USD and the Mauritian public is invited to contribute generously so as to bring some assistance and relief to those bereaved by this tragedy.
Three Bank Accounts will be operational to collect donations from the public for a four-week period and the contribution will be channelled through the UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, who is coordinating the relief and humanitarian efforts.
A Press Communiqué will be issued to give details of the bank accounts.
