1. Cabinet has taken note that, following the recent heavy rainfall, the Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Prime Minister, had a working session today, in the presence of the Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Environment and Sustainable Development, with representatives of the Police Department, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre, the Mauritius Meteorological Services and the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service, to take stock of the situation islandwide. All stakeholders concerned have been requested to monitor the situation closely and to take all necessary remedial measures in case heavy rainfall/localised heavy rainfall would persist and cause hazards such as, flash floods, landslides, overflow of rivers, water accumulation in flood-prone areas and on highways, amongst others.
2. Cabinet has taken note of the activities that would be organised to mark the 183rd Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery in Mauritius commemorated on 1 February. In this context, the Most Honourable Andrew Michael Holness, ON, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica will be the Chief Guest.
3. Cabinet has taken note that in view of the poor state of the building currently housing the Port Louis Fire Station situated at Maillard Street, Port Louis, the Fire Station would be relocated to some other suitable site pending the construction of the new fire station at the Immigration Square Urban Terminal.
4. Cabinet has taken note of the status of the project for the setting up of an oil terminal and a jetty at Albion so as to develop Mauritius as a Petroleum Hub.
