In this context, the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, effected a site visit yesterday at Ganga Talao to take stock of the progress of works. Other facilities such as showers and toilets for pilgrims are also being upgraded and close monitoring is being undertaken so that the works are completed on time, he added.
Mr Jugnauth also underscored that a shortcut, from Grand Bois to Bois Chéri, is being finalised so that the movement of pilgrims to and from Ganga Talao is facilitated, together with arrangements made by the Mauritius Police Force, for the festival. According to the contractor, works will be completed within a dozen days, he pointed out.
The Prime Minister also emphasised that, every year, improvements in terms of environment, infrastructure and facilities for pilgrims are made for any celebration or pilgrimage. These infrastructures will subsequently be used by the whole population and not just pilgrims, he added.
