Maritime Security: European Union reiterates its continuous support to Mauritius

GIS 02 May 2018: The European Commission Director General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Mr João Aguiar Machado, reiterated the European Union’s continuous support to Mauritius in the field of Maritime Security among other priority areas of economic development, this afternoon during a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.
In a statement, Mr Machado expressed satisfaction regarding his meeting with the Prime Minister and added that both parties evoked the various issues discussed during the Ministerial Meeting of the Indian Ocean Commission on Maritime Security held on 28th -29th April 2018 at the InterContinental Resort, Balaclava.
He further emphasised that the European Union, as a strategic partner, will continue to provide assistance to Mauritius in various economic spheres in particular through the regional mechanisms for sharing and exchange of maritime information and the coordination of action at sea through dedicated regional centres
