President of Republic of India arrives in Mauritius on 4-day State Visit

GIS  – 11 March 2018: The President of the Republic of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, reached Mauritius this afternoon on a four-day State Visit from 11 to 14 March 2018.  The Air India Boeing 747 flight carrying the Indian President landed at Sir Seewoosagur International airport at 13h45. Mr Kovind is the chief Guest of the Government on the occasion of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Mauritius. 
The Indian President was met at the airport by the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Jugnauth and Mrs Kobita Jugnauth. Upon arrival the Indian President was greeted by a round of 21-gun salute and the National anthems of both countries played. After that he inspected the Guard of honour made up of different units of the Mauritius Police Force.
From the airport, the Indian President proceeded to Le Réduit for a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Mauritius at the State House. Then he will go to the Mahatma Gandhi Institute where he will address the youth of Mauritius.  In the evening the President of the Republic of India will attend a Banquet offered in his honour by the Prime Minister at Swami Vivekananda Convention Centre.
On 12 March, Shri Kovind will go to Ganga Talao at Grand Bassin, then he will visit Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site in Port Louis. After that the President of the Republic of India will call on the Prime Minister followed by a delegation-level meeting at the Government House in Port Louis.  The two leaders will then address the media.  In the afternoon, President Kovind will attend the official celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius at the Champ de Mars.
On the following day the Indian Head of State will unveil the foundation stone of ENT hospital at Vacoas. He will then proceed with the inauguration of the World Hindi Secretariat Headquarters in Phoenix and launch the E-Tablet Project Student Support Programme.
During the visit a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed with regard to the establishment of the Nalanda University, an international institution, to be located in the Rajgir, Nalanda district in the State of Bihar, India.
The objectives and functions of the University are to establish an international institution of learning that will bring together the brightest and the most dedicated students from all countries and to give them the means needed for the pursuit of intellectual, philosophical, historical and spiritual studies. The University also aims to impart education towards capacity-building of Asian nations in the domain of philosophy, language, history and other areas of higher learning.
