Cabinet Decisions taken on 01 October 1999


1.Cabinet has agreed to the introduction of a new Sports Bill into the National Assembly. The main objectives of the new Sports Bill are to encourage decommunalisation and regionalisation of sports and to provide the appropriate legal framework for Sports Federations to operate efficiently.

2.Cabinet has taken note that the Technical School Management Trust Fund has decided to reserve four seats at the Institut Polytechnique de Rose Hill for the four best students of the "Brevet de Technicien" Examination of the Lycée Polytechnique Sir Guy Forget of Flacq to study for a "Brevet de Technicien Supérieur" course in the following fields:
(i) Batiment;
(ii) Electrotechnique/Electronique;
(iii) Mécanique/Automobile; and
(iv) Fabrication Mécanique.
The beneficiaries will be exempted from the payment of annual fee of Rs3000 and will be provided with a monthly stipend of Rs1000 each. This scheme will apply to those students of the Lycée Polytechnique Sir Guy Forget who have completed their BT course in 1998 and after.

3.Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the participation of Mauritius in the 7th All Africa Games held in Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa from 9 to 19 September, 1999. Mauritius won one gold, six silver and eleven bronze medals. Cabinet has further agreed to an increase in the cash prizes as follows:
(i) a gold medalist being granted Rs50,000 instead of Rs40,000;
(ii) a silver medalist being granted Rs15,000 instead of Rs10,000; and
(iii) a bronze medalist being granted Rs10,000 instead of Rs5,000.

4.Cabinet has agreed to the recommendation of the standing Committee on uniforms for an increase in the quantum to be disbursed in respect of the purchase of all items of uniforms and for the payment of tailoring fees for each eligible officer from Rs1850 to Rs2000 for Financial Year 1999/2000.

5.Cabinet has taken note that Mr. Dinnanath Lall Persunnoo has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Irrigation Authority.

6.Cabinet has taken note of the constitution of the Board of the Trust Fund for Overseas Treatment under the Chairmanship of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Heath and Quality of Life.

7.Cabinet has taken note of the composition of the Environment Appeal Tribunal under the chairmanship of Mr. Gerard Angoh, Magistrate Intermediate Court.

8.Cabinet has been apprised that the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research is carrying out an exercise to update all primary school textbooks and the new edition will be available as from next year.
