1.Cabinet has taken note of the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee set up to look into proposals for the future management and development of Plaine Corail airport. Inter alia, consideration will be given to:-
(i)the setting up of a Government-owned Company, The Rodrigues Airport Ltd., for the management and development of the airport; and
(ii)the operation of a duty-free shop at the airport for the benefit of foreigners.

2.Cabinet has taken note that arrangements are being made by the Ministry of Telecommunications & Information Technology for the proclamation of the Information Technology (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act by next week.
The Act provides for data protection and security and for prevention against computer fraud and misuse, taking into account major developments in the field of information technology.

3.Cabinet has agreed to the temporary closure of Mon Loisir Sugar factory for the 1999 crop only. The canes of the factory area of Mon Loisir will be transferred to FUEL with no additional cost to the planting community. All planters of the Ex. St. Antoine Factory area or Mon Loisir factory area who were delivering their canes at St. Antoine or Mon Loisir weighbridges may continue to leave their canes at these weighbridges. No worker in the employment of Mon Loisir Sugar Estate will be laid off. Moreover the safety measures prescribed by the Police, the National Transport Authority and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure for the conveyance of canes from Mon Loisir to FUEL will have to be complied with.

4.Cabinet has agreed to the construction of a Monument to mark the advent of the Third Millennium. The monument will be constructed in the region of Wooton, Curepipe.

5.Cabinet has agreed to the Ministry of Youth & Sports signing an agreement on Bilateral Co-operation with the International Sport and Culture Association and the Danish Gymnastics and Sports Association, Denmark. The main areas of co-operation concerned the International Youth Leader Education, Consultancy Services, Study Tour, Youth Exchange Programmes and Gymnastic Display.

6.With the transfer of responsibility for Traffic Management Unit from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure & Public Safety to the Ministry of Land Transport, Shipping & Port Development, Cabinet has been apprised that the latter Ministry will undertake a comprehensive assessment of needs to further enhance road traffic movement throughout the country for the safety of road users and the fluidity of traffic.

7.Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the participation of Mauritius at the 87th Session of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva from 31 May to 17 June 1999 and attended by a tripartite delegation led by the Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations.

8.Cabinet has taken note of the activities which the Ministry of Arts and Culture is proposing to organise to mark the celebration of the SADC Day on 17 August, 1999.

9.Cabinet has taken note of the constitution of the MAURITAS Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Dr. Claude Ricaud for a period of three years. The Council will advise on matters pertaining to accreditation of calibrating and testing laboratories and inspection & certification bodies.

10.Cabinet has taken note of the reconstitution of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority Board for the year 1999/2000 under the chairmanship of Mr. Armand Maudave.
