Cabinet Decisions taken on 8 September 2000


1.Cabinet has agreed to the artisans and labourers of the Rose Belle Sugar Estate being paid the 14% salary increase awarded by the PAT with effect from 1 January, 1998 and to the implementation of the 40 hour week.

2.Cabinet has agreed to accede to the request of the Federation of Civil Service Unions for an interim increase in salary pending the submission of the Report of the Heeralall Committee which has been requested to look into the question of compensation for the loss of purchasing power. In this respect, an amount of Rs300 per month will be paid across the board as from this month.

3.Cabinet has decided that the contract bus operators authorised to carry industrial workers would be allowed to undertake wedding and leisure trips.

4.Cabinet has decided that the subsidy on animal feed granted to pig breeders and cows keepers, etc. be increased from Rs1500 per ton to Rs2000 per ton as from today.

5.Cabinet has taken note that the payment of bad weather allowance to registered artisanal fishermen will be henceforth made on a monthly basis instead of every two months whenever the number of bad weather days exceeds seven in a month.

6.Cabinet has agreed to Mauritius adhering to the revised text of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). The amendments aim at updating phytosanitary concepts and reflect the new role of the IPPC in relation to the World Trade Organisation Agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures including institutional arrangements for setting international standards for phytosanitary measures.

7.Cabinet has been apprised of the reconstitution of the Board for Registration of Agricultural Chemists for 2000/2001 with Mr L.C. Lam Thuon Mine, Acting Chief Agricultural Officer as Chairman.
