Cabinet Decisions taken on 19th October 2001


1. Cabinet has agreed to the Sixth Session of the Sino-Mauritian Joint Commission being held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China early next year to review progress on projects in the housing and environment sectors financed by EXIM Bank of China and to negotiate on a Government-to-Government basis for on-lending to finance productive projects.

2. Cabinet has agreed to the introduction into the National Assembly of The Statutory Bodies Family Protection Fund (Amendment) Bill whichaims at -
(a) aligning the provisions of the principal Act regarding the mode of contribution and payment of retiring benefits to those of the Civil Service Family Protection Scheme Act as recommended by the Pay Research Bureau; and
(b) enabling an associate to either obtain a refund of contributions made by him or retain his benefits under the Act in the event of a merger between the statutory body and a Government institution.

3. Cabinet has taken note that Sunday 11 November will be observed as a Day of Remembrance for the two World Wars and that a wreath laying ceremony will be held in front of the War Memorial, Cure pipe at 1100 hours onthat day.

4. Cabinet has taken note of the new security arrangements that have been made at the SSR International Airport and of the proposal that the National Aviation Security Committee monitors these arrangements on aregular basis.

5. Cabinet has taken note that the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations will organise, from 30 November to 20 December 2001, in collaboration with the ILO a research programme on the costs and benefits of the application and non-application of Occupational Safety and Health standards in the context of globalisation and structural reform.

6. Cabinet has taken note of the acquisition of a Factory Fishing Vessel by the Southbond Management Services Ltd, a fully Mauritian-owned company, which will be involved in the capture of demersal fish.

7. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the Africa-Europe Ministerial Conference held in Brussels on 11 October 2001, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Co-operation participated.
