1. Cabinet has taken note of the final reports of the World Bank Consultant
on the Integrated National Transport Strategy Study and has agreed, in
principle, to retain its recommendation in favour of the Light Rail Transit
as the Alternative Mode of Transport along the Curepipe - Port Louis
corridor.

2. Cabinet has agreed to the setting up of a Ministerial Committee under the chairmanship of the Minister of Arts and Culture to make proposals for activities to mark the 167th Anniversary of the arrival of Indian Indentured Labourers in Mauritius which will be celebrated on Friday 2 November, 2001.

3. Cabinet has taken note of the project proposals which will be discussed at the Ninth Session of the Indo-Mauritian Joint Commission scheduled for the end of November 2001 in New Delhi.

4. Cabinet has taken note of the reconstitution of the Civil Service
Industrial Relations Commission under the chairmanship of Mr Pramahunse Bissessur.

5. Cabinet has taken note of the setting up of a multi-sectoral Committee to look into the implementation of the recommendations of the Tripartite Seminar on International Labour Standards and Migrant Workers held in Mauritius from 2 to 5 July 2001.

6. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the mission of -
(i) the Minister of Tourism, from 18 to 28 July 2001, to
(a) Milan and Dubai where he examined the development of the tourism
potential in Italy and in the Middle East Region respectively; and
(b) London and Paris where he reviewed the tourist marketing approach and worked out the basis for establishing a new tourism promotional plan for the next three years;
(ii) the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications to
Malaysia and Singapore from 18 to 25 July, where he took stock of
developments in the ICT sector and investigated possibilities of
collaboration and technical assistance for specific local projects; and
(iii) the Minister of Youth and Sports to Ottawa, Canada, where he attended the Special Ministerial Meeting of the CONFEJES from 13 to 16 July 2001.

7. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the recent visit of the Prime
Minister of the Republic of Rwanda to Mauritius, which culminated in the
signature of three bilateral Agreements -
(a) on economic, scientific and technical co-operation;
(b) for the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments; and
(c) for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income.

8. Cabinet has taken note of the sites identified for the construction of
1000 Firinga-type core houses for the very-low income group and the homeless and for the development of serviced plots as announced in the 2001-2002 budget.

9. Cabinet has taken note of the proposed participation of Mauritian
athletes in the "3eme Jeux de la CJSOI" to be held in Antananarivo,
Madagascar from 11 to 16 August 2001.

10. Cabinet has taken note of the shortcomings highlighted in the report of the Director of Audit in respect of the upgrading and dredging works carried out at Canal Dayot, Grand River North West and decided that the matter be referred to the Police.

11. Cabinet has taken note of the issue of a commemorative silver coin by the Bank of Mauritius in the context of celebrations of the hundredth
anniversary of the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in Mauritius.
