1. Cabinet has taken note that the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity & Senior Citizen Welfare and Reform Institutions and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime will sign a document on the implementation of a project which will enable the compilation of baseline data on the nature and the extent of drug abuse situation in Mauritius, the development of a national drug control master plan and capacity building of governmental and non-governmental organisations to address drug demand reduction.

2. Cabinet has taken note of the setting up of an Integrated Coastal Zone Management Committee under the chairmanship of the Director of the Department of Environment. The aim of the Committee is inter alia to develop an integrated management plan, coordinate regional and international projects and monitor coastal water quality and coastal resources.

3. Cabinet has taken note of the holding of the following events in Mauritius –
(a) the 24th Ordinary Summit of SADC in August 2004;
(b) a Seminar on the Ratification and Implementation of the UN Convention against Transnational Organised Crime from 23 to 25 September 2003;
(c) the Annual Conference of the Council of Boards of School Education of India from 8 to 10 September 2003. The Conference aims at evolving an Examination Reform Framework having a bearing on the quality of school education and on external as well as school-based evaluation;
(d) ICT Week/Infotech 2003 from 10 to 14 November;
(e) a Workshop on Human Rights and Good Governance by the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 10 to 12 September 2003; and
(f) the 4th Ministerial Council of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group in August 2004.

4. Cabinet has taken note of the Report on the National Consultation on Poverty which was organised in July 2003 by the Ministry of Economic Development, Financial Services and Corporate Affairs jointly with the European Union Delegation. The object of the Consultation was to assess the effectiveness of the on-going poverty alleviation programs, publicize their achievements, and sensitize the whole population on the issue of poverty.

5. Cabinet has taken note that the Minister of Commerce and Cooperatives will make the Export to the United States of America (AGOA) (Amendment) Regulations to make provisions for the requirements of AGOA II enacted in May 2000, relating inter alia to the new model Certificate of Origin.

6. Cabinet has taken note of the programme of activities which will be organised to celebrate the International Day of the Elderly on 1 October 2003.

7. Cabinet has taken note of arrangements made for the relocation of the 46 families squatting at Cité Lumière, Grand’ Baie.

8. Cabinet has taken note of the introduction of an Automatic Pricing Mechanism for Petroleum Products sold on the local market.

9. Cabinet had taken note of the constitution of the following –
(a) the Rehabilitation Youth Centre Board of Visitors with Mrs Satinder D. Ragobur as Chairperson; and
(b) the Seafarer’s Welfare Fund Committee under the chairmanship of the P.A.S. of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport and Shipping.

10. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the missions of –
(a) the Prime Minister to Tanzania where he attended the 23rd Summit of the Southern Africa Development Community held on 25 and 26 August;
(b) the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation to Swaziland where he participated in the Global 2003 Summit Partnership International Dialogue held from 13 to 16 August; and
(c) the Minister of Economic Development, Financial Services and Corporate Affairs to Uganda where he attended the Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group held on 28 August.
