Cabinet Decisions taken on 13 June 2003


1. Cabinet has taken note that the Minister of Industry and International Trade will make regulations under section 53 of the Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks Act to provide for administrative and legal matters relating to patents, industrial designs, trademarks, collective marks and service marks.

2. Cabinet has taken note that Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College will be granted provisional permission to start years I and II of the Bachelor of Dental Surgeon (BDS) Programme.

3. Cabinet has taken note of the list of Public Holidays for the year 2004.

4. Cabinet agreed to the new football complex at Bambous being named after late Mr Germain Comarmond.

5. Cabinet has agreed to the ratification of the Agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements signed on 14 May 2003 between the Government of the Republic of Mauritius and the Government of the kingdom of Swaziland.

6. Cabinet has taken note of the main recommendations of the study on market access carried out by the International Trade Centre (ITC), a Consultancy firm based in Geneva, in the context of the current negotiations at the WTO on Non-Agricultural Market Access.

7. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the 13th Special SADC Ministers of Trade and Industry Meeting held on 7 June 2003 in Lusaka, Zambia to discuss the preparations for the negotiation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU) and the Fifth World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference.

8. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the missions of -
(i) the Minister of Tourism and Leisure to Angola where he participated in the 39th Meeting of the World Tourism Organisation Commission for Africa and the Conference on Tourism, Peace and Sustainable Development for Africa held from 27 to 30 May 2003; and
(II) the Minister of Health and Quality of Life to Geneva where he attended the 37th Regional Health Ministers' Conference, the Pre-WHA Meeting of Commonwealth Health Ministers and the 56th World Health Assembly (WHA) Meeting held from 17 to 28 May 2003.

9. Cabinet has taken note of the programme of activities which will be organised to mark the Music Day on 21 June.

10. Cabinet has taken note of progress made in the construction of new sport complexes and the renovation and upgrading of existing ones to be used in the context of the Indian Ocean Island Games 2003 to be held from 29 August to 7 September 2003.
