Cabinet Decisions taken on 20 June 2003


1. With a view to increasing capacity building in Rodrigues, Cabinet has agreed to four additional scholarships being reserved for Rodriguan students.

2. Cabinet has agreed to the signing of a bilateral non-surrender agreement with the Government of the United States consistent with Article 98(2) of the Rome Statute.

3. Cabinet has taken note of developments in the preparation of the International Meeting on the Review of the Barbados Programme of Action of the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), convened by the United Nations, and which will be held in Mauritius from 30 August to 3 September 2004. In that connection, the State Investment Corporation will construct a Polyvalent Hall of international standard at Domaine Les Pailles.

4. Cabinet has taken note of the reconstitution of –
(a) the Mauritius Accounting and Auditing Standards Committee with Ms C. Ah Hen, Senior Lecturer at the University of Mauritius as Chairperson; and
(b) the Committee of the National Youth Achievement Award under the chairmanship of Mr José Hitié.

5. Cabinet has taken note of the official visit of the Hon Shri Yashwant Sinha, Minister of External Affairs of India, to Mauritius from 1 to 3 July 2003.

6. Cabinet has taken note that the Minister of Economic Development, Financial Services and Corporate Affairs will make regulations under the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act which provide for banks, financial institutions and cash dealers to keep records in respect of their clients, and to maintain internal control, compliance and reporting procedures.

7. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the missions of the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications to Seattle, USA, where he participated in the Microsoft Government Leaders’ Summit held from 18 to 20 May and to Paris where he attended the “Salon Européen des Centres d’Appels (SECA)” and the “Conference des Administrations des Postes et Telecommunications des Pays d’Expression Française” held on 22 May and on 26 and 27 May respectively.
