Cabinet Decisions taken on 14 May 2004


 
1. Cabinet has taken note that at the second meeting of the Tripartite Committee on Salary Compensation for financial year 2004/2005 held on 13 May under the Chairmanship of the Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, both the Trade Unions and the Mauritius Employers' Federation have agreed to the proposal for salary compensation as follows :-

2. Cabinet has agreed to Mauritius signing the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption. The objectives of the Convention are inter alia to promote and strengthen the development in Africa by each State party of mechanisms required to prevent, detect and eradicate corruption and related offences in the public and private sectors.

3. Cabinet has agreed to the introduction into the National Assembly of the Protection from Domestic Violence (Amendment) Bill which makes provision, inter alia, for cases of domestic violence committed by persons living under the same roof to be covered by the legislation and for penalty applicable to offences under the Act to be increased.

4. Cabinet has agreed to bring amendments to the existing Convention of the Commonwealth Regional Health Community Secretariat to which Mauritius is a member.

5. Cabinet has agreed to the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Economic Development for the implementation of the school IT project in phases over a period of six years.

6. Cabinet has agreed to the issue of an Export Service Certificate under the Export Service Zone Act to Intertek (Mtius) Ltd and to Ital Trading Co. Ltd. These two projects are expected to generate a total of Rs 10.3M of foreign exchange in the first year of operation and to create employment opportunities for 16 persons.

7. Cabinet has taken note that Mauritius will host the Annual General Meeting 2004 of the World Squash Federation from 6 to 10 October 2004.

8. Cabinet has reviewed progress made by the Joint Working Group on the Seafood Hub Initiative and has taken note inter alia of the implementation since 17 April 2004 of the Open All Hours Policy by all authorities responsible for the clearance of vessels.

9. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of -
(i) the visit of the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment to Rodrigues on Saturday 8 May 2004;
(ii) the mission of the Minister of Tourism and Leisure to Doha, Qatar from 1 to 3 May 2004 where he attended the Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit; and
(iii) the mission of the Minister of Youth and Sports to Maputo, Mozambique from 23 April to 2 May 2004 where he led a delegation in the context of the first Supreme Council for Sports in Africa Zone VI/Southern Africa Development Community Games.
