1. Cabinet has agreed that in the context of transforming Mauritius into a Knowledge Hub and a Centre of High Learning, and in view of the proposed setting-up of medical schools in Mauritius, the Mauritius Research Council should set up an International Advisory Committee to assess the capacity of clinical training facilities in medicine and allied medical sciences in our hospitals and make recommendations thereon.

2. Cabinet has reviewed the situation with regard to the contest for the leadership of the World Trade Organisation and has agreed that Mauritius should support the candidature of Mr Carlos Perez Del Castillo.

3. Cabinet has taken note that under the Automatic Price Mechanism, the prices of petroleum products are normally adjusted every three months, and has agreed that the price adjustment would, exceptionally, be made after a period of six months, i.e., at the beginning of October 2005, instead of beginning of July 2005. Further, Cabinet has taken note that a meeting would be held on 17 May 2005 to consider an increase on the levy imposed on gas oil and mogas and payable to the Bus Companies Recovery Account.

4. Cabinet has reviewed the situation at Chitrakoot, Vallée des Prêtres and Cité EDC-Pamplemousses and has taken note that the technical report on Chitrakoot, Vallée des Prêtres was expected by next week. In the meantime, certain proposals have been made to the affected families to be temporarily re-housed elsewhere. As regards Cité EDC-Pamplemousses, the contract for the construction of a drainage system has already been awarded and the contractor has started works on site.

5. Cabinet has taken note that the Central Tender Board having approved the award of the contract for the EIA for the extension of the Mare Chicose Landfill, a letter of intent has been issued to the successful bidder. It was expected that the Consultant would submit his report within a period of three months.

6. Cabinet has reviewed the situation at Camp Carol and has taken note of measures being taken for the relocation of the squatters of Camp Carol at Sottise.

7. Cabinet has agreed that Mauritius should accede to the South Centre, an intergovernmental body regrouping 48 developing countries and which has as main objectives to promote the South-South cooperation and to foster convergent views and approaches among countries of the South with respect to global, economic, political and strategic issues related to development.

8. Cabinet has taken note of the visit of a Public/Private Sectors delegation to Galicia, Spain from 3 to 6 May 2005 and has agreed to Mauritius signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Galicia, Spain in the field of fisheries.

9. Cabinet has taken note that the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure would make the Tourism(Designation of Tourist Sites) Regulations under the Tourism Act to regulate tourism relating activities carried out within those sites and has agreed to the designation of the Black River Gorges National Park and the Chamarel Nature trail as tourist sites.

10. Cabinet has taken note that an Open Day for Families will be held at the SSR Botanical Garden, Pamplemousses on 15 May 2005 from 1000 to 1500 hours to celebrate the International Family Day. The activities will include inter alia, treasure hunt competition for parents and their children, kite-making competitions, fun games and cultural show/programmes.

11. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the visit of Mr Tim Dracup and Mr Ceri Morgan, Consultants from the Department for Education and Skills (UK), in Mauritius from 25 to 29 April 2005 in the context of the project on Gifted and Talented pupils/students.

Cabinet has taken note of the programme of activities organised to welcome the Queen's Baton Relay in Mauritius from 1 to 4 June 2005 in the context of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and which will comprise inter alia a welcome ceremony on arrival of the Baton at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, gatherings at Port Louis and Grand` Baie, relay and procession at Réduit and a closing ceremony at the Mahebourg Waterfront.
