. 2. Cabinet has approved 28 applications for registration as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). These projects are expected to give rise to investment in production equipment of approximately Rs 9M, including Rs 290,000 in Rodrigues, and create 37 job opportunities.

3. Cabinet has taken note of actions taken for the rehabilitation and renovation of the National History Museum in Mahebourg. Formerly known as the Naval and Historical Museum, the National History Museum, the most important museum in the country dealing with the history of Mauritius, has been completely re-organised in line with international norms and raised to the status of National Museum. The new museum will be inaugurated on Wednesday 2 August, 2000.

4. Cabinet has been apprised that the Ministry of Arts and Culture will soon proceed with the inauguration of the Serge Constantin Theatre Hall (ex-Trafalgar Hall) in Vacoas and a Cultural and Recreational Centre at Pointe Canon around August/September 2000. Furthermore, the Mauritius Film Development Corporation will organise the annual Gala Show of the Festival de Court Métrages on 11 August 2000 at Radisson Plaza Hotel and would be broadcast live..

5. Cabinet has been apprised of security measures being taken at reservoir sites with a view to better controlling the access thereat. Amongst others, reservoir sites will be lighted and fenced, with round the clock surveillance. Security guards will be provided with better communication facilities. Furthermore, regular police patrols will be effected.

6. Cabinet has agreed, in principle, to the incineration of solid wastes as an alternative to sanitary landfill. The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development, Productivity & Regional Development and the Ministry of Environment and Urban & Rural Development will work jointly to study the modalities and implications of this alternative.

7. Cabinet has approved the appointment of a Stage Play Consultative Panel, with Mr Yacoob Ghanty as Chairman, to make recommendations inter alia on matters relating to the classification of stage plays.
8. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of -
(i) the meeting of SADC Ministers of Finance held on 5 July 2000 in Maputo, Mozambique. The Mauritian delegation was led by the Minister of Finance.
(ii) the SADC Local Government Ministers Meeting held on 10 July 2000 in Pretoria, South Africa. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Local Government, Outer Islands Development and Small & Medium Enterprises and Handicraft.
(iii) the official visit to India from 2 to 10 July 2000 by the Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity and Senior Citizens Welfare who led a delegation there. The main purpose of the visit, which is a follow-up of the contacts established by H.E Mr A.V. Chettiar, Vice-President of the Republic during his visit to India earlier this year, was to identify areas of cooperation for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities and the running of a workshop for making artificial limbs and prostheses in Mauritius.
