1. Cabinet has agreed to the introduction into the National Assembly of -
(a) the Sports Bill 2001 which aims at rationalising legislation relating to sports in Mauritius and enhancing participation in sports activities; and
(b) the Medical Council (Amendment) Bill which provides for amendments to the Medical Council Act 1999 to make better provision with regard to the qualification of specialists, the election of the Chairperson of the Medical Council, disciplinary procedures and sanctions, and the registration of medical practitioners and specialists.
1. Cabinet has taken note that Christmas will be celebrated at national level on Saturday 22 December 2001 at the Municipality of Quatre Bornes.

3. With a view to rationalising the grant of time-off for religious purposes, Cabinet has taken note that as from January 2002, subject to exigencies of the service, public officers would, during the year, be granted two-hours time-off in respect of any two religious festivals of their choice.

- Cabinet has taken note of the pre-requisites Mauritius has to meet and the facilities and incentives to be offered to attract investors in the ICT Sector in the light of the interest shown by potential foreign investors, operators and experts in the ICT Sector.

5. Cabinet has taken note of the setting up of a Marina Tourism Complex as part of ' The Green Valley Resort Project’ at Old Grand Port. The Complex will include shops, leisure facilities, cultural attractions, restaurants, holiday service arrangements and general village facilities.

6. Cabinet has agreed to the services of Professor Lim Chong Yah, President of the Economic Society of Singapore, being retained for the review of the wage determination mechanisms in Mauritius. Mr Chong Yah has served as Chairman of the National Wages Council of Singapore from 1972 to 2001 and is also member of professional associations.

7. Cabinet has agreed to the adoption of a National Policy Paper on Occupational Safety and Health prepared by a National Tripartite Conference held in October 2001. The Paper will form the basis of a 3-year Action Plan for the promotion of safety and health within a workplace.

8. Cabinet has agreed to the ratification of the SADC Protocol on Fisheries, to enable Mauritius to engage in fruitful co-operation with SADC Member Countries through co-ordination and integration of economic activities, particularly the sustainable use of fishery resources, human capacity building, law enforcement, information sharing, research and technology transfer and promotion of cross-border trade and investment in the fishing industry.

9. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the missions of -
(a) the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance to London from 26 to 27 November 2001, where he had meetings with Mr Jack Straw, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Baroness Amos, Minister for Africa and other personalities;
(b) the Minister of Industry and International Trade to -
(i) Washington from 29 to 30 October 2001, where he attended the USA-Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum and Philadelphia from 30 October to 02 November 2001, where he participated in the US-Africa Business Summit of the Corporate Council on Africa;
(ii) Geneva from 2 to 5 November 2001, where he attended the second Trade Policy Review of Mauritius held at the WTO Secretariat;
(iii) Brussels from 5 and 6 November 2001 where he attended the 4th Meeting of the ACP Ministers of Trade; and
(iv) Doha, Qatar from 9 to 13 November 2001 where he attended the 4th WTO Ministerial Conference.
(c) the Minister of Social Security, National Solidarity & Senior Citizen Welfare and Reform Institutions to Reunion Island where he visited some of the NGOs providing residential care to the elderly and physically and mentally disabled persons;
(d) the Minister of Local Government and Rodrigues to Seychelles from 28 to 29 November 2001, where he participated in the General Assembly of “Association des Villes et Communes de l’Ocean Indien” and in a Workshop on “Local Government and Decentralisation.”
(e) the Minister of Tourism to France, from 12 to 15 November, where he attended the World Travel Market 2001 and to the UK on 20 November, where he met European Public Relations Agents and Travel Trade Partners to discuss issues and techniques to enhance the image of Mauritius as a tourist destination;
(f) the Minister of Health and Quality of Life to New Zealand from 25 to 29 November 2001 where he attended the 13th Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting;
(g) the Minister of Training, Skills Development and Productivity to Lille, France from 28 November to 2 December 2001 in the context of development initiatives to restructure the textile industry.

10. Cabinet has taken note of the “Family Planning and Demographic Yearbook 2000”, an annual publication of the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, providing data on population, vital statistics, family planning and health service points on Mauritius and Rodrigues.

11. Cabinet has taken note of the results of the 2000 Housing and Population Census carried out by the Central Statistics Office. The tabulation data files will also be posted on the Central Statistics Office website - http://statsmauritius.gov.mu

12. Cabinet has taken note that the 2002 Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey would be conducted from January to December 2002. The objective of the survey is to collect, on a regular basis, statistical information on the social and economic characteristics of the population to be used in the compilation of various social indicators relevant to decision-making at the social level.
