Apostille certificate is issued only to public documents; please check from the list below if your document is a public document and then come for Apostille. In case the document is not a public document; it needs to be certified through a notary and the Supreme Court in order to make it a public document.

 

Common Public documents

  • Documents from Civil Status Office- Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate, Publication of Marriage, Certificate of Celibacy/Marital status, Attestations etc.
  • Documents from Supreme Court- Power of Attorney, Certificate of incorporation, Affidavits, Divorce documents, Constitution, Miscellaneous notarised documents like copies of bills, passports, NIC, Letters, Bank statements etc.
  • Documents issued by Mauritius Police Force- Driving licence, Attestation for police officers, proof of address, etc.
  • Documents issued by the Passport and Immigration Office- occupation permit, residence permit, certified copy of passport, etc.
  • Documents from The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution- Certificate of Character
  • Documents issued by the Attorney General- change of name documents
  • Educational certificates certified by the Ministry of Education-  copies of SC, HSC, degree certificates, transcripts, etc certified by the ministry of education.
  • Some documents from Ministry of Health and Quality of Life- sanitary documents
  • Documents from Registrar of Companies- Certificate of incumbency, certificate of incorporation, resolutions, etc.
  • Documents from Mauritius Revenue Authority- tax documents
  • Documents issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Mauritius – Adoption documents, citizenship documents, Property Restriction Act documents etc.

 

Note

The documents mentioned above are for guide only; the onus for accepting the document remains with the Apostille Office as the latter is in a position to determine if the document is acceptable as a public document upon verification of the signature and stamp on the documents.

 

The documents mentioned above should be original documents signed and stamp by the recognised body. In no case, copies of these documents be accepted for apostille except if the copies have been certified by a notary and Supreme Court.

 

Kindly Note: All documents to be apostilled are checked if they contain the following:

• Original Signatures of an authorised person

• The Status​​​ of the person signing the document

• The seal of the certifying body

 

Documents that are not considered Public Documents

• Bills

• Photocopies of National Identity cards/Passports

• Educational Certificates

• Bank statements

• Documents issued by private company/individuals

• Attestation of work

• Personal/Company Letters

 

 

Note

For documents in this category; these need to be certified by a notary and the Supreme Court before these can be apostilised.​
